The updated BLOS Model (February 2020) suggests that four major classes of modern human health problems are caused by long-term, elevated BLOS. The first class includes Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes, which are caused by Elevated Plasma ROS levels inhibiting (1) glucose transport to adjacent tissue; (2) Ankyrin B function causing fat accumulation; (3) inhibition of insulin production disrupting glucose transport; and (4) AGE production. The second class includes conditions associated with the circulatory system including (1) Hypertension due to depressed plasma sulfide levels; (2) atherosclerosis; and (3) reduction in VEGF production by platelets. The third class includes an increased risk of Cancers due to ROS, which causes DNA damage. Elevated ROS has been shown to alter DNA methylation, which could alter gene expression. The fourth class includes other Inflammatory Diseases, such as Alzheimer's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Aging. Long-term, elevated BLOS induces acetylation, which triggers inflammation via the inflammasome.
Health problems caused by Long-Term, Elevated BLOS are costing Americans a lot of money, as shown in the figure below. BLOS management has the potential to save a lot of money.
