This blog post will keep you up to date on the current status of Glixin’s new Blood Oxidative Stress (BLOS) Test. Oxidative Stress is thought to cause multiple human health problems. The list includes Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, and a greater risk for Cancer. Blood Oxidative Stress or BLOS is thought to be the main source of Oxidative Stress in humans. If we have any hope in managing BLOS, then we need a way to measure its level.
Wellness BLOS Test Development Progress To Date
The new Wellness BLOS test is currently in development by Glixin. The BLOS test measures the causative agent of Oxidative Stress, the abundance of the ROS+ blood cells. My faculty collaborator has generated a linear standard curve for the concentration of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) using a commercial ROS measurement kit and bench-top fluorimeter. Next, he prepared two blood samples from the same clinically healthy human volunteer. The first sample is the unknown sample. The second sample included NaHS, which induces the ROS response in blood cells. He used the same ROS measurement kit and fluorimeter to measure the H2O2 concentration in the plasma of both samples. A marked difference was observed in the samples with a ratio of 12%, which corresponds to the BLOS level (percentage of blood cells actively generating ROS).

Next Steps
My faculty collaborator is waiting to test the BLOS method on the blood collected from a clinically unhealthy individual. Ideally, the individual will have Type 2 Diabetes without dietary changes. Recall, I hypothesized that the Western Diet is responsible for multiple chronic health conditions including Type 2 Diabetes. After demonstrating that the BLOS level of a clinically unhealthy person is much greater than a clinically healthy person, we will need to replicate this observation for publication and clinical research funding. I’ve also reached out to Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp about licensing the method in order to make the Wellness BLOS Test available to more people. Both companies are offering Wellness tests to consumers. One company has expressed interest in translating the whole blood method into a Direct To Consumer (DTC) kit that uses microliter blood samples.
Clinical Research Needed for Disease Diagnostic
The BLOS test has the potential to be a Disease Diagnostic, which will require clinical trials. Health Insurance companies do not pay for Wellness tests.
